Breast Test Wales receives ten million pounds for screening

The breast cancer screening service Breast Test Wales has received a ten million pound investment from the National Assembly of Wales to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, according to SouthWalesArgus.co.uk.

Breast Test Wales uses mobile screening units to spread breast cancer awareness and emphasize the importance of breast checks and early detection. The service offers breast cancer screening free of charge every three years to women in Wales aged 50-70. With the investment from the Assembly, Breast Test Wales will be able to screen women on digital equipment rather than analog.

"This puts Breast Test Wales in an excellent position to continue to deliver an efficient and modern screening program, maximizing benefits from new technological developments," Professor Sir Mansel Aylward CB, chairman of Public Health Wales, told the news source.

The program invites more than 140,000 women to their mobile screening units each year. Along with early detection and educating women on the importance of yearly mammograms, if an abnormality is found, the patients will be put on the right track to recovery.

Breast Test Wales was established in 1988 to deliver the National Health Service breast screening program in Wales, according to their website.
