Mom finds out she has breast cancer while pregnant

Michelle Maloney found out that she was had breast cancer and was pregnant all in the same month, fittingly it was last October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, according to the The Daily World Helena-Arkansas.

"I never was nervous that the cancer was going to be the end, because I knew I had caught it early," Maloney told the news source. "I had a lot of confidence in my doctors and a wonderful support network of family and friends. I always thought, 'I can do this. I'm going to figure out what I need to do, and I will move forward and get through this.'"

Maloney did make it, and now she has a 4-month-old son Matthew and is back at work. She has undergone a year of successful cancer treatments and is hoping her story will inspire other women to get screened as early as possible, the media outlet reports.

According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, it is recommended that once a woman turns 40 she schedules annual mammograms. Those who have an extensive family history of the disease may want to make these appointments earlier to ensure that they catch the disease during its beginning stages.
