New study offers a different treatment method

A new study conducted by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center examined a different way to treat breast cancer, by delivering chemotherapy through the nipple. This can provide a less-toxic and highly-targeted approach to ridding of the disease, according to ABC News.

The treatment is in the very early stages, but if proven to be safe, it can be highly effective for treating the early stages of breast cancer, according to the media outlet.

However, many experts are left skeptical of the possible new breast cancer treatment.

"It's a very interesting concept, but I am more skeptical of whether it will actually work," Dr. Stefan Gluck, clinical director of the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute at the University of Miami, told the news source. "The principle is great, and if the treatment does what the researchers say it will do, I think it will be successful."

According to the American Cancer Society, this disease not only is the second most common among women behind skin cancer, but it is also the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women, following only lung cancer.
